Ramadan Ready with Academic At Home

Ramadan Ready with Academic At Home

With Ramadan right around the corner – mere days away! – I have given a great deal of thought to what I wanted to put in my children’s “Ramadan Basket” this year. My son is 3 years old and is coming to realize that holidays are special times. I want him to feel even more excitement for Ramadan than he did when he was introduced to Christmas and Easter this past year. But I also want activities that don’t feel like burdens – on him or on us!

The goal this Ramadan is simple: build excitement. Let Ramadan be associated in his mind with things he loves. So I have a Ramadan countdown calendar that we’ve filled with little gifts and trinkets. And our Ramadan Basket is full of age-appropriate books (watch my Instagram for reviews of these books!) as well as a few activities.

I know that there are lots of wonderful activity packages and worksheets out there for Ramadan. But for a 3 year old? Not much that I thought would be manageable for us, at least. So I designed and developed two daily pages that we can visit throughout the month. I’ve laminated them for future use and am excited to see how these go!

I encourage you to use these two pages also, and share with me how they worked for your family this Ramadan!

The Two Printables:

First, there is an “I Spy: Ramadan Moon” page with 28 circles for tracking the moon through the month. Every night, ask your children to fill in the circle with the shape of the moon that they see. If they don’t see anything (maybe it’s too cloudy!), put a question mark, leave it blank or take a guess!

Second, I have always loved the idea of a “Ramadan Kindness” calendar with 30 activities, ideas for small acts of kindness. I created one that we could do together as a family (and I even took into account the pandemic!). The activities are things my 3 year old can do on his own as well as with us. The activities are very home-based so it’s great for what we’re facing globally this year.

Together, these two simple, daily activities will – hopefully! – build excitement in my son for this Blessed Month. If they are of benefit to you also, I hope that you will share with me how you use them this month and give me suggestions for any future use insha’Allah!

A blessed Ramadan to you all!
