Academic At Home: What’s the Why?

Academic At Home: What’s the Why?

Whether it’s a university essay or a business plan, it’s imperative to begin with WHY. Why do this? Why write this? Why offer this? What is the why

My why is quite simple. It’s time to change the way we learn and, in turn, the way we teach. Education remains one of the most stagnant sectors; innovation in education often means considering how to bring tech into the classroom. That’s not good enough. Not for me.

I am passionate about learning, in all forms and at all stages of life. There is an increasing concern with raising “lifelong learners.” But what does that actually entail? Howdo we raise a lifelong learner? Where do we begin and how do we sustain this love of learning over time? These are the questions that drive my work at Academic at Home.

My intention is rooted in a commitment to service. I have gained a great deal of knowledge about the conventional education system, as well as its alternatives. I am currently completing my dissertation at a top research university. I am also a mother, committed to home educating my children. Combined, these two aspects of my identity drive my desire to share this journey with others.

In doing so, I hope to help equip you: the home educating parent, the university student, the youth – the person striving for academic excellence.

Academic at Home is a space that will support you on your personal journey through academia and scholarship. Here, I will offer a blog that touches on the infinite aspects of education that have an effect on learning at all stages of life, whether in early childhood or late adulthood! I will also offer resources that I hope will assist you in meaningful ways as you pursue education, whether for yourself or your children. Finally, I will bring my knowledge to you in the most hands-on way I can imagine with online course offerings. These I have developed with a great deal of thought in order to ensure the best possible experience for youto learn (i.e., small class sizes, engaging assignments and practical applications).

I have other ideas in the works but, for now, this is where Academic at Home begins.

But, before leaving you, I began with my why. But we’ve surely all heard of the other W’s: who, what, where and when. Let me share a bit about each of these.
